DLP Sabre Dev Diary

Commanders,

The May installment of the Dev Diary series is here, giving a glimpse into the upcoming DLP-Sabre and how to best utilize it.

FRESH FROM THE FIREBIRD #10

Hello Commanders,

It’s tank season! Time to brush off your driving gloves and get behind the wheel of the latest metal war beast! Ok, so it turns out it’s not a wheel, it’s a series of clutches, because its not as simple as just turning the direction of a wheel to steer, instead you need to increase the speed of one track, while at the same time reducing the speed of the other. Those who have looked inside one will understand (or have seen the Tank Steering System page on wikipedia). Anyways…

The DLP-Sabre

Based on the US Army’s Next-Generation Combat Vehicle program’s main battle tank variant, the Decisive Lethality Platform Sabre is the benchmark for Tier 10 sturdiness – boasting the highest health of any non-mega unit in the game, plus a punishing main cannon and a suite of secondary weapons to take on a variety of threats.

I won’t go into details about the best strategies as to how to use the DLP-Sabre, its a main battle tank and has all the strengths and weaknesses that implies, but I will speak on unit roles more general. As we move to a more structured approach to unit functionality, expect to see more units like the DLP-Sabre which serve a clear purpose but cannot excel on their own. A tank will not provide massive fire power able to level a base on its own, a long range artillery unit won’t have a ton of armor.

We are past the mono-platoon attack strategies where only one unit (like the Osiris) is used to attack. To stay competitive, we recommend building out platoons with a variety of units each working in tandem to achieve success. We will be open about the role of each unit, and suggest what it should be paired with, but there is still plenty of room to find the best fit for your own unique playstyle

The future

Following the DLP-Sabre, you can expect to see another heavy vehicle fulfilling a unique role – but this time, it does use a steering wheel!

You heard it here first, directly from the Firebird! Stay tuned for the next page in the Dev Diary series, Commanders.
