War Zones: Looking Ahead

Feb.21.2018 BY KIXEYE_Chris

With Control Points (CPs) and new alliance features in the game, what does this mean for War Zones strategy? What lies ahead for the future of Rogue Assault?

Following our first update, the high-level strategies of alliance play in the War Zones has already begun its shift to a new style of burst play which will become more formalized now that there are clear start and victory conditions for alliance wars. Additionally, alliance strategies will likely continue shifting to a coordinated mix of hiving, raiding, and expanding owned territory.

Burst Play – Formerly, War Zones combat had no clear beginning and end to raids or player-initiated wars. Nothing outside of normal resource and infamy stealing was necessarily gained nor lost by an organized alliance push against another.

Now, alliances can start their own formal wars, have 8 hours to win the war, and once the war is done there is a clear winner who owns the CP buff and a loser that needs to try and reclaim the territory or find a new home. These bursts of high-energy play can be exhilarating, especially when battles come down to the wire!

Hiving – Once an alliance stakes out its most valuable territory, its members may cluster in that Zone Area to ensure they’re receiving their bonus and that they can defend the territory in full force should an assault begin. Unlike current positioning on the War Zones, Contestable Zone Areas will likely have more open territory now that bonuses are only given to the alliance that currently owns the Control Point.

Raiding – Coordinating team-wide raids will now be more crucial than ever, as multiple hits are required to declare war on a Control Point, and alliances will need the full force of their military power to wrestle territory away from a defending alliance. Team-wide jumps into new Zones to push entire defending alliances out may become common, as alliances attempt to obtain more strategically valuable Control Points.

Expanding – The most powerful coalitions in the game, competing for the most valuable territory, will likely find it’s not enough to simply own one or two Control Points, and instead find it’s better to secure their borders by having allies own and occupy most of the Zone Areas in a particular Zone. This will become more important as additional bonuses are eventually introduced for owning the majority of an entire Zone.

Looking toward the future, the team is excited to expand on the types of Control Point buffs being offered, as well as introducing larger bonuses for owning entire Zones and Regions of the map as the globe expands. Additionally, the introduction of an Alliance Store and an Alliance Tech Tree will allow players to create a more unique footprint in the War Zones and customize their alliance to bolster the exact type of gameplay their members are interested in from Rogue Assault.

Control Points goes live tomorrow, February 22nd. We hope you enjoy this new addition to War Zones, and good luck out there in the battlefield.
